or atleast give specific advice on what kind of suspension is probably best.

By NC, I am going to assume that you mean the NC Miata.

Question #1 -- What's your budget?
Question #2 -- What are your short, medium, and long term goals with the car? How do you intend to drive / use the car? You don't necessarily need to have a plan, but it helps with the planning if you have a somewhat cohesive plan, esp if you are considering something long term.

Question #3 -- I don't understand what you are trying to achieve with floor mat removal. The removable floor mat is just something you take out. If you are thinking of removing the entire interior carpeting, I am going to ask you to seriously consider why you want to do that.
