UBC@ WCRA Rally x in Hope 09/26/10

Pics will be up soon.

Stormin Norman got FTD for 2WD and I think Second overall behind the crazy killer Subie Wagon with Gravel tires.
He beat out Jason's Stage Rally Subaru and Craigs Stage Rally Mitsu.

Pics of Team Snoopy at the event.

I thought Joyce did pretty formidably, especially given how miserably inexperienced its drivers were (for the afternoon, at least - high5 Steph :D)

Here was some of the competition.
It would have been a close battle of the Yaris clan, but I kept hitting the brake instead of the clutch practicing my left foot braking. DOH!

I wrote down Norm. Sorry it was Stephanie on one of her last laps with Norm in the Nav seat. (in the pictures with the Gram Lights front wheels).
The pictures of the "non Gram light" wheels was Norm. Norm ran with the skinnier knobbier tires.

Everybody talks about preturning in Auto-x. In Rally X you do this all the time! Especially if you're in a Subaru.
You hit the apex like your going to cut it by two feet and the car slides out so you just clip the apex and power out of the turn.

    preview_wcra_rallyx092610_19320.jpg

    Look familiar?
    preview_wcra_rallyx092610_20120.jpg

The Wagon that just barely beat Norm. On a side note, Won, He also has a very nice 2002!!!
    preview_wcra_rallyx092610_20920.jpg

What really made the difference of the day was tires.
    preview_wcra_rallyx092610_27320.jpg

The Yaris had on my old street tires and thanks to a blowout, I changed the front tires to my "gravel" tires and it made up a difference of 5 seconds.

Craigs Mitsu just missing that cone out of the start.
    preview_wcra_rallyx092610_31220.jpg

The AWD cars couldn't hold that tight line which is what Norm did. Kept it tight to the cones and swung the end around only when needed.

This was an amzing turn that Jay did. Swung it sideways so he could blast out of the pin and still stay between the exiting gate. All the other cars were hitting the outside cone on the exiting gate.
    preview_wcra_rallyx092610_40520.jpg

The other question was. Do we go through the big puddle at the end before the stop, or swing wide and avoid the puddle. Which is faster?
The Puddle wins. It's more fun!

I like Joyce, the car and the person. The person is more fun. I'll get her out to an auto x someday.

But the Joyce Civic will soon morph into something devilish, and very sexy I hear.

We may have been miserably inexperienced... but we had a hell of a time! I remember my first run in the civic when I started screaming like crazy because I thought we were gonna go straight into the cement divider and you just laughed at me :x

but OMG does that thing need new shocks. there is 0 (zero, nil, none) damping left in the thing. the autotragic transmission can be worked around. it would be nice with a limited slip, but for the price, She is a real beaut.

Yah, that last pic was amazing and the car rotated nicely and just past the cones.
    Great work Norm!

Dave, I know you'll have a blast in Parksville next month. Just get the shocks put in em.

I am so jealous. If I could go to one of these I'd be as happy as a pig in mud.

Well, I'd be in mud, at any rate.

I need to find a car I can co-drive... anyone got space? :?:
